"Patience" by Gilbert & Sullivan  19:30 - 21:45
The Centre, New Eltham Methodist Church, 435-9 Footscray Road, New Eltham More details

New Eltham Community Production's next show will be "Patience" by Gilbert & Sullivan. It’s 14 years since our last G&S and 43 years since we staged "Patience"! This comic opera in two acts is lighthearted, witty, laugh out loud funny in places and the music is tuneful and catchy: a light-hearted masterpiece satirising the intellectual attitudes prevalent in the late Victorian period. The satire remains as relevant today as when the piece was written; fashions and tastes may have changed but the cult of personality continues to this day. It's a story of love, superficiality and vanity - come along and see us perform one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most successful shows and find out just who will be Bunthorne's Bride?

Iolanthe by Gilbert & Sullivan  19:45 - 22:15
Bob Hope Theatre, Wythfield Road, Eltham More details

Who has not heard the magnificent 'Peer's Chorus', surely one of Sullivan's best, or Gilbert's tongue-twistingly difficult 'Nightmare Song? And the wonderful overture!

This classic G&S opera tells the story of Iolanthe (a fairy), her son Strephon (half a fairy), his love Phyllis (not a fairy), and the House of Lords led by the Lord Chancellor (all soon to become fairies).

Boy meets girl – boy loses girl – boy and girl get together again. The plot is not unusual in itself, but when Gilbert adds his own unique brand of magic, it takes on a whole new twist.

Ferrier Operatic Society are performing this well-loved operetta.

Tickets from the Bob Hope Theatre Box Office, open Tue-Sat, 10-1pm.
